I used 14ga for everything, because that’s just what I had. Run the 2 sender wires up through the dash into the A pillar. Then the trim pulls right out - it’s only held in with 2 clips now. All you have to do is remove the 2 T40 soft top fitting bolts and 2 phillips head screws for the visor. We’re pretty much done in the engine bay for now. Water temp sender wire hooked up with a #10 ring. It’s pretty easy to poke a hole in the rubber and fish them through. I ran the wires through the main firewall hole. There is an engine/chassis ground right there, just make a 6” wire with a #10 ring on one end for the sender, and a 1/4” ring on the other for the ground point.ĭrain the oil and install the new fitting, easy enough. ![]() The good thing about this fitting is it includes a ground point. I stuffed a rag under it, but only a few oz came out.Ĭut the hose a few inches from where it starts to curve up, so that the brass fitting has room to fit in straight and make a good connection. The heater core input coming right out of the head is the one closest to the engine. Drain the radiator before starting unless you want to make a mess. Test the sendor grounds just in case, mine were fine.įirst up, the water temp. Autometer calls for Teflon tape, so I used it. Prepare the senders in their respective fittings ahead of time. I chose this vs the “above the radio” method because it keeps your eyes up on track. The gauge pod is the full pillar replacement style found at a few different vendors. This is where water temp is the highest, so really we’re measuring oil sump temp and max water temp. Oil temp from a drain plug sender and water temp from a 5/8” heater hose sender coming out of the block. Will be doing the oil pressure gauge mod next, so no need for a dedicated gauge. I chose an Autometer setup for oil and water temp. ![]() Recently installed an A pillar gauge pod and found that while it’s been documented before, detailed pictures and dimmer wiring info are lacking, so here we go.
